Spiderman 3

Spoiler warning! - Of all the summer movies, Spiderman 3 was the only one I was really excited about. However, after seeing this movie, it looks like its going to be a pretty lame summer movie going experience for me. Spiderman 3 becomes predictable at the end, after Harry and and his butler has the conversation where he tells him what really happened to his father. You knew he was going to show up the final fight and forgive peter and die. I knew it was all coming. The movie was good up to the conversation, after that I knew everything that was going to happen. Kind of ruined it.

Summer Movies

  • Cars: This one should make a lot of money but with kids movies I usually wait until my little cousins get it on DVD and watch it with them.
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest: I never saw the first one and have no desire to watch this one either.
  • World Trade Center: I am not ready for this one.
  • Miami Vice: This one should be interesting but I will probably wait until it comes out on DVD to watch it.
  • Lady in the Water: Any movie of M. Night Shyamalan is worth shelling out 9 bucks. However, this is not a summer movie and I don't see how it is going to compete with all other big movies.
  • The Da Vinci Code: Ever since I read the book I have been anxioulsy awaiting the release of this book. I have to admit though I have not been very thrilled with the previews. I am also having a hard time seeing Tom Hanks as Professor Langdon.
  • Superman Returns: This is the movie I have been highly anticipating ever since I heard it was coming out this summer. Hopefully it will be a good one.
  • Mission: Impossible 3: This movie is coming out tomorrow althougth I won't go and watch it. With finals and all starting this weekend, it may be a movie I may end up watching when its released on DVD.
  • The Devil Wears Prada: This chick flick should be good but it will also will have to wait until DVD release before I see it.
  • X-Men: Last Stand: I really enjoyed watching the last 2 X-Men movies and part 2 left me wanting more. This is the kind of movie I will go and watch on opening day.
  • The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift: The first two were terrible and I don't expect anything less with this one.
  • The Lake House: Another movie that should not be coming out during the summer.
  • Just My Luck: I will be surprised if this movie makes more than 10 mil on its opening weekend. I think Lindsay Lohan's 15 minutes of fame has ended.
  • Little Man: Sound like another terrible black comedy.
  • My Super Ex-Girlfriend: It was written by Simpsons writer Don Payne so it probably means its a movie you should wait until it comes out on TV.
  • The Break-Up: Vince Vaughn is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors and this flick will definetly be one I go and watch at the theaters.
  • Click: It has been a while since Sandler has made a movie I have enjoyed and chances are this will be another one that I will dislike.
  • Nacho Libre: Jack Black is overrated.
  • Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky: I liked Will Ferrell on SNL, Old School, and Wedding Crashers but did not like him in Anchorman, Bewitched and Kicking & Screaming. So I will wait on this one as well.

This movie was much better than I expected. They do a good job with the killings.

The Ring 2

This movie was the ish. There was never a dull moment. It kept me on the edge of my seat most of the time. It got into the action right away. Oh yeah and that face. Its back. I can still remember the first time I saw that face. I have never seen a more frightening image.

Since I we are talking movies, I also saw Ocean 12 a few days ago. Now I did not understand how they got out of jail. One moment they are in jail and the next moment free birds. I also caught Closer. Damn this movie sucked. Every damn Jude Law movie blows. I rented She Hate Me a few weeks back. That movie blows as well.

The movie was not as good as I thought it would be.

Alexander

I don't know why everyone hated on this movie. It was not bad at all. But this is coming from a guy who did not think much of Gladiator, Troy or all the Lord of the Ring movies. Was it historically accurate? I have no clue. This was one of Angelina Jolie's better performances.

The theater I saw the film in, AMC 14 in Greenbelt, MD, had no heat. It might have been colder inside the theater than outside. Good thing I had on 2 sweaters under my jacket.

Catching Up On My Movies

Here are the movies I saw in the past month:

SURVIVING CHRISTMAS

This movie was not bad but it could have been better. The Red Sox's bad luck might have ended but Ben Affleck's has not.

KINSEY

The critics love this moive but even thoug it has its moments, it is nothing special.

MEAN GIRLS

I had high hopes for this movie because I am such a big SNL fan. I was disappointed. It was not bad but not as good as other SNL movies.

HARLOD & KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE

Dumb movie.

The Village

This was definitley the best movie I have seen this year. The biggest jaw dropper I have seen since the Sixth Sense. Althought I thought it odd that you could actually see one of the overhead microphones during one of the scences. How is it possible this happened? Does not make any sense to me.

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

I will admit I thought the movie looked real dumb when I first saw the preview. But after seeing it, I thinking it is one of the funniest movies I have seen in a while. The last time I laughed as much watching a movie was when I wacthed Jackass. In fact, I think it is the best movie I have seen all year. The only thing that will best it I think will be the upcoming Meet the Fockers.

The Cookout

There really wasn't anything good to watch this week. Evidently I am not the only one who feels this way because the highest grossing movie this week brought in only $11.5 mil. The Cookout was very weak. There wasn't very many laughs.

The Bourne Supremacy

The movie was not bad. I like the whole idea; the fact that Bourne does not know who he actually is. I am pretty sure this is not an original idea but it defenitley sets up for interesting situations. I wonder if part III of the movie is already in the works?

Movie week

I have gotten a good diet of movies the last few days. I finally saw Matrix 3. A lot of people said it was bad. Although I don't agree, I don't think it was as good as Matrix 2. I still have no clue what the Matrix is or what in the world is going on in the movie, but the fighting scenes make it worthwhile. I was also late getting around to Spiderman 2. It was not bad but it was not better than the first one. I also caught Catwoman. Lets just say I have seen worse movies.

John Woo to direct Rainbow Six

John Woo (Paycheck, Windtalkers, Mission: Impossible 2) has agreed to direct Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. While I was going through Yahoo's upcoming movie listings, I discovered that there is another Tom Clancy movie in production: Red Rabbit. I am currently reading that book so I hope it comes out first. I will start on Rainbow Six as soon as I finish Red Rabbit.

Shrek 2

You can get the first Shrek from Amazon.comIt was not as good as the first one. I hope Shrek 3 will be better. I wonder how Shrek 3 will be made though, now that Pixar and Disney have broken up.

My opinion of Shrek 2 is a minority because in only 2 weeks it has broken the bank. It the next few days, Shrek 2 will have made more money than the first Shrek. That is right! The first Shrek grossed in $267 million but the second one has already reached $257 million in just 12 days.

Saved

The setting in the movie was Baltimore at a Christian high school. I wonder if it actually was shot in Baltimore. I saw several cars with a Maryland liscence plate. I check on google and yahoo to see if an 'American Eagle High School' (the high school in the movie) existed in Baltimore but I did not find anything. Well, the movie was not bad. Macaulay Culkin looked terrible. Mandy Moore was not bad in it. The main character in the movie is played by Jena Malone. She gives up herself and gets pregnant for a stupid cause. Then she looses faith and becomes one of the outcasts. Macaulay Culkin never had any faith. Mandy Moore has too much faith. I guess I should not say anything else more about the movie. It was not bad.

The Alamo

I saw the movie on Saturday. It wasn't my idea to watch it. I went in to see it because my cousin wanted to see it. I did not like it very much. Well, the truth is I did not get as much fighting as I was expecting. It opened up at $9,124,701. It must be very disappointing because it kind of looks like a big budget movie.

By the way, what ever happened up to the second slave? The last I remember of him was he holding his bag and waiting to say, "Yo es Negro. No es despardo" or something like that during the Mexican attack. They never showed whether he survived or not. That, or I missed it.

Big Fish

Watching this movie reminded me of the story Death of a Salesman. In both a stories, the main conflict is focused on the father/son relationship. In both cases, the father does not know where reality begins and ends. The father cheats on his wife in both stories. Not to mention that they were both salesmen and they are dying.

Counting on The Big Bounce

I am predicting this week's top box office movie will be The Big Bounce. I think the end result will be close with The Perfect Score but I think Bounce's star power (Owen Wilson, Morgan Freeman) will carry it to top. I am guessing its weekend gross will be a cool $20 mil. I think it would have done better if it had not come out in a weekend featuring the Super Bowl and cold weather in the east coast.

Intolerable Cruelty (2003)

Nice little movie. I wanted to watch it because I think Catherine Zeta-Jones is the hottest thing on the planet. The scene where the dude put the gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger because he thought it was his asthma inhaler, well that scene was like whoa. An interesting way of ending a situation.

Movies 2003

Best Movie of 2003: The Matrix Reloaded
I have not seen the third installment but from what other people have said, it was not as good. Matrix 2 featured the best action scenes I have ever seen. I don't think any other movie was as good as this one.
Runner Up: Cold Mountain
I really liked this movie. I think this is probably the first time ever that I have liked a movie that is a favorite to win the Oscar. I don't know why they made the movie so violent (Rated R) or else it could have been a nice family movie.

Worst Movie of 2003: Freddy vs. Jason
Looked like a low budge movie. The acting was really bad. The movie was not scary at all.
Runner Up: The Real Cancun
This movie was really bad. I hate reality TV. I don't even know why I bothered to watch it.

Most Disappointing Movie of 2003: The Hulk
I thought perhaps this could be part 1 of more upcoming Hulk movies. If there ever is Hulk 2 and it is made by the same group of people who made the first one, I will not go and see it. I was really disappointed by the Hulk. The Hulk looked so fake and so did the other non-human characters in the movie.

Cold Mountain

Cold Mountain
I really liked this movie. I did not know much about the movie except that it was set during the Civil War and that Nicole Kidman was starring in it. I figured since Nicole Kidman was in the movie that the movie would be a little romantic movie and not focus so much on the war. Well I was wrong. There was plently of blood and killing. I did not even know the movie was rated R. I have not seen any previews for it. Going into the movie, I did not think I would like it because I generally don't like movies that get a lot of Oscar buzz (The Hours, Chicago, A Beautiful Mind, and Gladiator of all which I disliked very much). Plus it was directed by the dude who did The English Patient. I hated that movie. Well Cold Mountain probably is one of best movies I have seen this year. I really liked Renee Zellweger's character. She was tough, funny and what she did to that rooster that was bothering Kidman's character was awesome.

Mona Lisa Smile (2003)

Mona Lisa Smile
It was not anything special. It is the same old plot where a teacher at first seems not to belong but at the end it turns out they have made a mark on everyone’s lives. The heroine in this case is Julia Roberts. She is distressed by the fact all her students think all there is to life after school is marriage. It was a good move but I don’t think I would have shelled $8 out to watch it.

I give it a B+

Gothika

She Ain't Alone
This the best horror movie I have seen this year. Halle Berry was actually good! I am not a big fan of her and I think she is highly overrated. The movie was pretty good. Her and Penélope Cruz did not have makeup on for lot of the scenes. Man they looked bad (compared to the way they normally look). This is the best horror movie I have seen since The Ring. Good movie but it is not going to beat out Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat in the box office this weekend. And how about Elf, going back up to #1 this past weekend. I got to go watch it, or maybe not.

I give it a B+
