February 29th

Yup it is the day that comes once every 4 years. In Ethiopia, where I am originally from, the extra day is added at the end of the year. Ethiopia uses the ancient Julian calendar, broken up in to 12 months of 30 days and a 13 months with 5 or 6 days. Most of the world uses the Gregorian calendar, like here in the US of A.

Ravens and Atlanta just don't mix

I am a Ravens fan from the Baltimore area so if indeed the federal drug charges against our running back Jamal Lewis are true, I will be very saddened for he makes up the entire offense by himself. If he is found guilty, he will go to jail for 10 years. I wonder if the Ravens would get a compensation pick if he was found guilty?

Jamal Lewis is accused of trying to help a friend buy drugs in Atlanta. Ray Lewis - who has no relation to Jamal but also plays for the Ravens - was charged with murder in the city of Atlanta. The Ravens need to prohibit their players from going to Atlanta during the offseason. Somebody might get accused of a serious crime. Ravens and Atlanta just don't mix.

2004 Elections

I have never really cared for politics much. I am not a US citizen yet so it would not have mattered much if I had cared. Although I don't care much for who becomes president, I know some of the stuff that has happened. I know that Dean was the favorite in the beginning but it seems like his outburst in Iowa caused his downfall. He is now out of the race. All I know about Kerry is that he is currently the favorite. I believe Edwards and Sharpton are still in it. I really did not think the democrats had a chance against Bush but I was surprised by some poll done by Fox that had Bush favored by only 2 points. Some dude named Ralph Nader now has joined in the race and it seems like everybody is in uproar. He is gonna take away the votes needed defeat Bush, everyone is claiming. If that is the case, this Nader dude must be a republican in heart.

NBC After this season

After this TV season is over, NBC will loose Friends and Frasier. They have already lost football, baseball and basketball. NBC's highest rated show, Will and Grace, isn't guaranteed to be back next season. Their other hit shows, ER and Law and Order, have been on TV for such a long time, NBC can't expect them to be on forever. They have a pretty good thing going on with Fear Factor and The Apprentice, but those two shows can't compete with Surviour or American Idol. The Apprentice is getting huge rating because it comes on half an hour after Friends on Thursdays. How is it going to do next year when it will be without Friends and will have to compete with the return of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Yankee or Dixie

I am "50% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category." Take the test.

Norah Jones does a million in her first week

I guess I really should not be surprised. Even though her debut album, Come Away With Me, came out in 2002, the only person to sell more than her in in 2003 was 50 Cent. Her sophomore album, which came out last week, moved 1.02 copies in its first week alone. Kanye West's debut, The College Dropout, came in a distant second moving 440,000. More bad news for Kanye as the single Slow Jamz, which he is featured in, was knocked out of the #1 position on the Billboard Top 100 by Usher's Yeah.

February Blows

ITS COLD. I normally don't mind winter but this current one has been the coldest I have ever experienced. I would rather have it snow 2 feet like it did last winter than have it be so damn windy and cold all the time. NO FOOTBALL OR BASEBALL. I don't like hockey or basketball, mostly likely because there aren't any professional teams in Baltimore. I am a big fan of the Orioles and the Ravens, so when it is not football or baseball season, everything on TV seems very dull. ITS MY BIRTHDAY MONTH. I don't like thinking everytime this month comes around I have just gotten one year older.

The Yankees are truly evil

When Aaron Boone broke his leg, everyone knew the Yankees were gonna get a sufficient replacement whether it be by hook or crook. But I don't think anyone imagined it would have been the best overall player in baseball. The Red Sox tried to acquire Alex Rodriguez but the players union didn't agree with the arrangement the Rangers and the Red Sox had worked out. George Steinbrenner must have been upset at hearing that the Red Sox had a better offseason than the Yankees. So he goes on to kill two birds with one stone; finding a replacement at third and pissing of the Red Sox.

Outkast no longer #1

OutKast's Hay Ya had ruled the Billboard Hot 100 for nine weeks and last week The Way You Move finally reached the top spot. But its stay at poll position only lasted one week. This week Slow Jamz is #1. I love Kamikaze. I wonder what his next single from the CD will be. It will probably be So Sexy featuring R. Kelly. Kamikaze is so much better than The College Dropout. Kanye isn't all that at rapping. He makes fine beats but he shouldn't be rapping.

Going on a break

I took my last final today. I think I did pretty good. We had to write 7 essays for various topics for my ENGL340 class. I really enjoyed the class. I use to think Shakespeare's work were impossible to read. But what I realized was that you need to do a lot of pre-reading before you open up a Shakespearean play. Knowing why he wrote it and what was happening during the time are crucial.

So I am off from school the next 2 months. Next semester starts March 29th for me. I don't know yet what I will be taking. I guess I will have to see how I did this semester and then decide.

Outkast KOed by Outkast

Big Boi and Andre
The nine-week run of Hey Ya at the top of the billboard charts has come to an end. But Outkast ain't worried because the new number one song is another Outkast track, The Way You Move.

Who is Andre?: In the new Westside Connection song Gangsta Nation, Ice Cube says "sing like Ashante Body like Beyonce, face like Andre (uhhh)". Who is Andre? Is it Andre 3000 of Outkast or is it Dr. Dre?

Missy: In Missy's new song I'm Really Hot, she rhymes, "I don't french kiss, unless it's 50 cent". Why? Does she think he is the greatest or something?

Death of a Salesman

I finished reading this book today. I really liked it. I don't know who I feel sorry more sorry for, Willy or Biff. Ah perhaps it should be Linda. She took in so much. But Willy worked all his life for his boys, he only meant them good. But I guess he did them a whole lot of nothing. Real terrific story. You should read it.

Want to read Hamlet in 2 minutes?: Skinhead Hamlet shrinks Hamlet into about 5 lines per seen while using English you can understand.

Best Super Bowl Commercials

  1. McDonalds - 'Dryer/ burger smell': A dude puts a burger wrapper in the dryer by mistake. As a result his wife smells like McDonalds and when he sniffs the smell on her, they start getting it on in the kitchen counter.
  2. Budweiser - 'Referee': The announcer is wondering how the referee can take the coaching yelling at him. The scene goes to the referee's house showing his wife yelling at him
  3. Mastercard- 'Homer Simpson': Homer gets annoyed by the dude who says 'priceless' for mastercard
  4. Charmin - 'Snap': The QB looses his concentration because the Charmin toilet paper sticking out of his center is so soft. Delay of game is called
  5. Subway - 'Be Bad': The announcer explains that when Subway meant you can be bad, he means you can eat bad, not do bad things

  7. America Online - 'Car': The car is so fast, the dude can travel time

  14. Gillette - 'Feeling of Gillette': men dream of being unstoppable. I don't know what his has to do with Gillette but I like this commercial
  15. NFL Network - 'Manana': NFL dudes sing 'Tomorrow is only a day away' because it is super bowl Sunday and they are not playing in the game

Stupid Super Bowl Commercials: I thought the Bud Light - 'Spa Treatment' with Cedrick was really corny. I also did not like Bud Light - 'Spa Treatment' commercial.

Super Bowl 38

The best Super Bowl game I have ever seen. I have watched the last 11 Super Bowls but none before that. I did see something I have never seen before though; a Defensive Delay of Game. What the heck is that? Did the clock run out? It was an excellent game. I was rooting for Carolina so I was disappointed by the result.
