We gonna whip Tennessee

My favorite NFL team the Ravens are back in the playoffs. We host the Tennessee Titans, the former Houston Oilers. The Ravens and the Titans were in the AFC Central before the 32-team alignment. Now they play in the south and us in the north. We have beat them the last 5 meetings. We are playing at home. We are favored. Here we come New England!

Ruben tops albums charts

Ruben Studdard
His debut album, Soulful, landed at #1 moving 416,000 copies in its first week. He did not do as well as Clay; he moved over 600,000 units in his first week. Ruben does not mind because he got a grammy nomination (Category 24) and Clay did not. Although Luther will win that award. I would give it R Kelly.

Examine the albums charts closely and you will see they must have made a few mistakes. According to the chart, Outkast's new CD has already sold 6 million copies. A triangle next to an album name indicates that it has gone platinum and if there is a number next to it, it means it has sold that number times a million. In this case the number is 6. Every Wednesday, Billboard.com posts an article announcing how the top 10 album did for the week. Two day ago, the article said Outkast's new CD has sold 2.36 million so far to date. Unless 3.64 million people have purchased the CD in the last two days, they must have made a mistake. Maybe they multiplied the figures by two since it is a double CD. Even then, the total becomes under 5 mil. One million people did not go out and buy the CD in the last 2 days.

Also according to the chart G-Unit's Beg for Mercy has gone double platinum but Jay-Z's Black Album has not even gotten to the million figure. I think they have the results backward here. Supposedly Nelly's Da Derrty Versions - The Reinvention and Missy's This Is Not A Test have gone platinum status in only 3 weeks. Oh come on! It never even made the top 10.

Stuck on the bus for an hour

It happened this past Friday. I was on the University of Maryland bus going to Silver Spring Metro Station. Not long after the bus started going, we made a stop at the shoulder of a street. It took us all (the passengers) a moment to realize that we were not at a bus stop. Another bus passing by had glazed the left side view mirror and only the driver had noticed. He called the cops and his supervisor. It took them 20 minutes to get there. Once they got there, they took another 20 minutes examining the mirror. The other bus had only glazed it. Nothing had happened to the mirror. First the cops took down our names and then the supervisor's crew did the same. We were stuck on the bus for about an hour before we got moving. I was heading to Silver Spring Metro to catch bus 929 heading towards Columbia. I was going home for the weekend. Lucky for me bus 929 comes every half an hour or so during and after rush hour.

It could not have been live

Nicole Richie
Did anyone else watch the Billboard Musics Awards last night? Nicole Richie from The Simple Life was presenting an award and she cursed. She said the F word and the S world and it was not bleeped out. It looked like she was reading from the telecompter too. The show could not have been live. When Beyonce was walking on stage to accept her first award, the TV announcer guy was like, "Yeah this is her fourth award." Huh? How is that possible? Unless they were only broadcasting some awards. Anyways, the best part of the show was when Triumph The Insult Comic Dog came out. He was making fun of everybody infront of their faces. No actually the best part of the show was when Nicole Richie cursed. I don't believe the F and S word are allowed on TV.

Cold Mountain

Cold Mountain
I really liked this movie. I did not know much about the movie except that it was set during the Civil War and that Nicole Kidman was starring in it. I figured since Nicole Kidman was in the movie that the movie would be a little romantic movie and not focus so much on the war. Well I was wrong. There was plently of blood and killing. I did not even know the movie was rated R. I have not seen any previews for it. Going into the movie, I did not think I would like it because I generally don't like movies that get a lot of Oscar buzz (The Hours, Chicago, A Beautiful Mind, and Gladiator of all which I disliked very much). Plus it was directed by the dude who did The English Patient. I hated that movie. Well Cold Mountain probably is one of best movies I have seen this year. I really liked Renee Zellweger's character. She was tough, funny and what she did to that rooster that was bothering Kidman's character was awesome.

AFC is better than NFC

The two hottest teams in the NFL are the Eagles and the Patriots. But if the Eagles were to play the Patriots today, they would get crushed. The Eagles have one playmaker and that is McNabb. Next to him, they don't have wide receivers that make big plays and running backs who are consistent. Their defense can't stop the run and overall it is ranked 18th. This team not only can't compete with the Patriots, but they don't come close to the Chiefs, the Titans or the Colts. Yes the Eagles have won 8 in a row but 6 of those wins were against team that will most likely miss the playoffs. The second best team in the NFC are the Rams. They have 9 wins but they have not been playing very dominating football as of late. They nearly lost 2 of their last games to teams which they are clearly better than, they Cardinals and the Bears. Three weeks ago the Ravens held the greatest show on turf to 121 total yard on offense. They won the game only because the Ravens coughed up the ball 7 times. Other teams from the NFC headed to the playoffs include the Panthers, the Cowboys and the Seahawks. Carolina has lost 3 in a row and the only good team they have beat the entire season is Indy, and that was back on Week 6. The Cowboys have lost 3 out 4 proving they are not ready to compete with the big boys (lost to PHI, NEW, and MIA). Seatlle just can't win on the road. The only team they have beaten on the road this season is the Cardinals. AFC baby. AFC all the way to the title.

First snow of season

It started to snow two night ago but it was very light and there was no accumulation. I was surprised to find out schools in Columbia were closed yesterday. There was no snow on the ground here at College Park yesterday. It started to snow early this morning. No more than a few inches. Thank goodness.

Friday Five

1. Do you like to shop? Why or why not? - I think I do. I enjoy getting new stuff. I also like being cheap.

2. What was the last thing you purchased? If we are counting groceries, that would be orange juice, cheese, and cereal. The last non-grocery item I purchased would have to be a universal TV remote.

3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why?
I much prefer shopping at an actual store. I rarely purchase anything online.

4. Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it? Nope.

5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing?Chocolate chip cookies from CVS that were on sale. They did not taste good at all.

Is CBS king or is CBS king?

According to this article, everyboyd watches CBS. Of the top 11 most watched shows on TV, 9 are on CBS. The other two (MNF on ABC and Fear Factor on NBC) are not really shows making CBS the only place to get good drama or comedy. The only thing I watch on CBS is football on Sundays. CBS covers the AFC and my team is the Ravens. Of the three big networks, NBC is my favorite. My two favorite shows are on NBC, Saturday Night Liveand Friends. Jay Leno is choice of late night followed by Conan. Here are the top watched shows of last week:
1. Survivor: Pearl Islands, CBS, 20.1 million viewers
2. CSI: Miami, CBS, 19.7 million viewers
3. Everybody Loves Raymond, CBS, 19.15 million viewers
4. 60 Minutes, CBS, 19.14 million viewers
5. Two and a Half Men, CBS, 17.1 million viewers
6. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (9 p.m., Thursday), CBS, 16.6 million viewers
7. Cold Case, CBS, 16.5 million viewers
8. CBS Sunday Movie: Finding John Christmas, CBS, 16.2 million viewers
9. NFL Monday Night Football, ABC, 15.9 million viewers
10. Fear Factor, NBC, 15 million viewers
10. King of Queens, CBS, 15 million viewers

Jay-Z back at #1

Jay-Z
With a lot of top artists releasing CDs last week, I did not expect Jay-Z to be the top seller. I thought Britney Spears would remain at number 1 after moving over 600,000 copies last week but her sales dropped 59%. Jay-Z's The Black Album sold 260,000 units this week and that pushes its total to over a million. Nelly's Da Derrty Versions debuted at number 12 selling 144,000 and Missy Elliott was right behind him, whose This Is Not a Test moved 143,600. Next week, Alica Keys new album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, should be the top seller.

Mona Lisa Smile (2003)

Mona Lisa Smile
It was not anything special. It is the same old plot where a teacher at first seems not to belong but at the end it turns out they have made a mark on everyone’s lives. The heroine in this case is Julia Roberts. She is distressed by the fact all her students think all there is to life after school is marriage. It was a good move but I don’t think I would have shelled $8 out to watch it.

I give it a B+
