The Chiefs offense was too much for the Ravens defense. They amounted 398 yards and only punted 5 times. They held the ball for 40 minutes. Priest Holmes rushed for 125 yards and Trent Green threw for 223 yards. The Chiefs were exceptionally good at 3rd down conversions.
The only person who showed up for the Ravens was rookie BJ Sams. He returned a punt for a touchdown at the end of the second quarter for 58 yards which tied the game at 17. He also had good kickoff returns to consistently put the Ravens in good field positions.
The Ravens were able to keep the game close mainly do to 2 big plays. The first was a flea flicker that resulted in a 56-yard touchdown to Randy Hymes. The second one was the punt return by BJ Sams. They were helped by the referees on their 3 touchdown. The referees called pass interference on the Chiefs on a throw well out of reach of any Raven player. If the penalty had not been called, the result would have been an INT.
